  • Koehler Renewable Energy is continuing on its mission to deliver on “2030 Koehler Promise”

Koehler Renewable Energy is continuing to expand when it comes to developing power plants dedicated to the production of sustainable energy. The most recent development in this area was the acquisition, through the company’s UK subsidiary, of the Pitnacree hydropower plant in Scotland on November 1st, 2024.

The Pitnacree hydropower plant is located on the Pitnacree Estate in Ballinluig, close to the town of Pitlochry in Scotland. It was originally developed and built by the owners of the Pitnacree Estate, and has been an integral part of the region’s renewable energy infrastructure since going live in December 2015. With an installed capacity of 300 kW and a high efficiency of 82% at a maximum flow rate of 236 liters per second, the hydropower plant is crucial in delivering energy reliably.

Investment in a sustainable energy future

“With this acquisition of the Pitnacree hydropower plant, we’re continuing on our growth trajectory in the area of renewable energy. The acquisition is not just boosting our portfolio in Scotland, but is also clearly in line with our goal of making an important contribution to a sustainable and carbon-neutral future,” says Koehler Renewable Energy UK Director Alan Mathewson.

The purchase of the Pitnacree hydropower plant is the most recent in a series of investments with which Koehler Renewable Energy is expanding its presence on the British market. Just this year, the company has already acquired six other hydropower plants in Scotland, which truly underscores the company’s ambitions in regard to significantly increasing its renewable energy production capabilities.

The 2030 Koehler Promise – for a sustainable future

It is no secret that Koehler Renewable Energy is pursuing ambitious sustainability goals. This includes delivering on the “2030 Koehler Promise,” which intends for Koehler Paper to produce more renewable energy with its own plants than it needs for its paper production operations by 2030 at the latest. This promise is proof of the company’s commitment to proactively helping shape our transition to sustainable energy and making a significant contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions.

“We’re proud of making a positive change in the industry with our investments in hydropower and other renewable energy sources while simultaneously securing a stable and environmentally friendly energy future for the Koehler Group,” adds Koehler Renewable Energy Wind Power, Solar, Hydro & Business Development Division Head Nicolas Christoph.
